Detroit DD15 Diesel Engine

Detroit Diesel’s flagship heavy-duty engine for Class 8 trucking. Canada Parts Exports sources DD15 units through its North American supplier network for fleets and international operators.

About the Detroit DD15

The Detroit DD15 is the workhorse of the Daimler Truck North America heavy-duty diesel lineup. Introduced in 2008 as the successor to Series 60, the DD15 is a 14.8-liter inline-six purpose-built for long-haul Class 8 operations. It is the primary engine option in Freightliner and Western Star trucks.

The DD15 incorporates Detroit’s Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS), Turbo Compound technology (on GHG17 and later builds for improved fuel economy), and Detroit’s integrated aftertreatment — including DEF-based SCR and DPF — to meet EPA GHG17 emissions standards.

Canada Parts Exports assists operators and rebuilders in sourcing used DD15 engines, rebuilt units, and long blocks through its supplier network. Engine build dates and emissions tiers (GHG14 vs. GHG17) are important sourcing factors — provide as much information as possible at inquiry.

Sourcing Options

Availability depends on supplier network inventory at time of inquiry. GHG14 and GHG17 units are sourced separately.

GHG14 vs. GHG17 — What to Know

DD15 engines are available in two primary emissions generations: GHG14 (pre-2017) and GHG17 (2017+). GHG17 units feature Turbo Compound technology for fuel efficiency improvement. These two generations differ in ECM calibration, aftertreatment systems, and certain hardware components. Specifying your emissions tier requirement and build date helps the sourcing team locate the most compatible unit.

What to Include in Your Inquiry

  • Target horsepower rating
  • Emissions generation (GHG14 or GHG17)
  • Engine serial number (if replacing)
  • Aftertreatment required (yes/no)
  • Complete engine or long block preference
  • Destination country and city
  • Your name and contact information

Compatibility Notice: The DD15 is designed for Freightliner and Western Star platforms. Installation in other makes requires independent verification of mounting, cooling system integration, and ECM compatibility. Canada Parts Exports sources engines — compatibility and installation verification are the customer’s responsibility.
