Mopar 426 Hemi Engine

The engine that rewrote drag strip records and defined an era of American muscle. Canada Parts Exports sources 426 Hemi cores and rebuilt units for restoration and performance builds.

About the 426 Hemi

The Chrysler 426 Hemi is one of the most recognizable engines in American automotive history. Introduced in 1964 as a pure racing engine for NASCAR and drag racing, the 426 earned its name from its distinctive hemispherical combustion chamber design — a geometry that allows larger valves, better breathing, and more efficient combustion than conventional chamber shapes.

Chrysler offered the 426 Hemi in street form beginning in 1966, powering iconic Mopar muscle cars including the Dodge Charger, Dodge Coronet, Plymouth Barracuda, Plymouth Road Runner, and Plymouth GTX. The street Hemi was rated at 425 horsepower — widely acknowledged as a conservative figure. Production of the original 426 Hemi ended in 1971 following tightening emissions regulations.

Today the 426 Hemi is among the most sought-after original Mopar engines for restoration and high-performance builds. Canada Parts Exports assists customers in sourcing cores and rebuilt units through its supplier network.

Casting Number & VIN Verification

Original 426 Hemi engines carry specific casting numbers on the block and heads. For restoration accuracy and valuation purposes, always verify block casting numbers, head casting numbers, and date codes before purchase. Numbers-matching engines command significant premiums and require documentation. Canada Parts Exports can assist in identifying what information is available for a given unit — but authentication is the buyer’s responsibility.

What to Include in Your Inquiry

  • Complete engine or long block preference
  • Used core, rebuilt, or modern crate equivalent
  • Numbers-matching requirement (yes/no)

Compatibility Notice: Original 426 Hemi engines were produced from 1966–1971 and were designed for specific Mopar B/RB-body applications. Engine mounting, transmission compatibility, and fuel system requirements differ from other engine families. Verify fitment with a qualified restoration specialist before ordering. Canada Parts Exports does not confirm fitment compatibility — we source the engine; the customer is responsible for fitment verification.
